“Cannabis may be the brightest spot in retail in 2019” – Yahoo Finance
The retail cannabis market is on fire, with Common Citizen being one of the most progressive lifestyle brands in Michigan and in the country. With a “high end” retail experience in mind, they communicated to us that craftsmanship and clean modern design was paramount for their in-store experience. Their design required a manufacturer who was experienced in working with a multitude of materials and could deliver a custom solution rapidly to match their aggressive business model.
Showbest was asked to fabricate large 12”x12” pine beams which would be clear coated to act as benches. Because the beams were cut green due to time constraints, then clear coated, moisture from the wood was not allowed to escape and thus caused the moisture to be trapped underneath the finish and become moldy. Once notified of the issue, Showbest redesigned the beams to be laminated wood on MDF, made to look real by miter folding the edges and ends, then clear coated to achieve the same desired aesthetic.
One of the challenges presented by the owners was the need to lock the drawers of the sales floor display table drawers and pullouts - without seeing the locks. Showbest recommended using hidden magnetic locks that are largely concealed for.
Due to the many different products inventoried behind the cash counter, and the variety of different packaging of these products, tidiness became an issue. We resigned all the drawers to have adjustable drawer boxes and dividers.
Shortly after we installed the chevron cladded welcome desk, we were informed that the Desk needed to be ADA compliant. Due to the current design we had no other option but to cut a large U-shaped section in the front of the desk to ensure it met ADA standards.
