The Opportunity
HMSHost set out to bring the Maggiano’s Little Italy brand into a busy airport concourse without losing the warmth and richness that define the restaurant’s traditional dining experience. The challenge was to translate a full-scale hospitality environment into a high-traffic travel setting while maintaining durability, brand integrity, and operational efficiency. The restauraunt construction was a part of the SLC Aiport phase 3 constuction of a brand new terminal in concourse B-East.
Showbest was engaged to fabricate and install a comprehensive millwork and architectural package throughout the space. The project included custom walnut veneer cabinetry with brass hardware, slatted wall paneling installed over soundproofing backers, and vertically tufted banquette seating with integrated power outlets. Individual and double booths, low wall seating with flip-up countertop outlets, and a custom-stained ceiling cloud with gold extrusions helped reinforce the elevated dining atmosphere.
At the center of the space, Showbest fabricated a custom steel-framed island with integrated cabinetry and liquor steps, as well as powder-coated steel TV support frames to accommodate five televisions. Above the bar, a decorative hanging bottle display constructed of welded steel tube framing and lattice wine storage was designed with frosted acrylic panels and integrated LED lighting. Clear sliding acrylic doors provide secure storage after operating hours.
All stone surfaces throughout the restaurant — including bar tops, the center island, back bar, cabinet countertops, and individual table tops — were fabricated and installed by Showbest. Additional architectural features included decorative gold tube steel privacy screens with fluted acrylic panels, storefront bulkhead cladding with gold trim and a custom 3Form acrylic sign backer, and a fully integrated grab-and-go cabinetry section with slatwall and snack bins.
HMSHost managed all trades on the project, and Showbest worked closely with their team, the design firm, and the general contractor to coordinate details and ensure a smooth buildout. From shop drawings through installation, the collaboration resulted in a refined, durable hospitality space that delivers the Maggiano’s experience within the fast-paced airport environment.
